Sometimes people are able to cut back their useless internet time, by utilizing something known as an App Off Timer. Usually, it comes with a set of two timers, one for time on the app, and one for the time of break. When the app-timer realizes you spent too much time on a specific app, it will lock you out of the app. After you are locked out of whatever app it is, the timer for the break will start to count down until the app is unlocked. It is recommended to try different variations and see which works best for you. When people start utilizing this app and start limiting how much useless recreational activity is spent on their phones, and internet, the realization of the amount of time we waste is breathtaking. For a rule of thumb, if you spend half an hour wasted away, every day over the course of a year, that will equal to over a week nonstop, if you were to combine the time lumpsum. If an hour a day is wasted internet use and apps, within three and a half weeks, a day lumpsum would have been wasted. Looking at a calendar and how fast the days go by we can see what a waste mindless scrolling really is.

However, limiting time on an app isn’t the only thing to look at when reorganizing your internet time, but you also have to look at the usefulness of what you are using your internet time for. For instance, YouTube can be a great tool for learning new skills or getting the latest updates, yet there are close to a limitless number of other videos on there, in which watching would simply be a waste of time. Just like how telegram, discord, chats, social media, and email can be used for valued communication, it can also be a place where time is wasted in conversations and time scrolling that pertains to nothing useful.

The easiest thing to do would be just to delete social media all together, and revert back to a flip phone (yes, they are still made and sold.) However, instead of just losing the vices of the internet, we also lose the positive influence it can have on our lives as well. Truly the best method for overcoming any internet vices is to just learn how to moderate our time online to better ourselves.
