To keep ourselves from getting overwhelmed or over stressed it’s important to decompress, because too much stress can lead us not to be able to think clearly. In modern society people have this “Hustle” mentality where if they spend all their time and energy working, they’ll be successful, only to burn out and get taken advantage of. The only way to avoid this is to take time off regularly and get grounded. It is proven that after long periods of stress, we lose our ability to think straight. It’s important that we take time off to decompress and reflect on our life. Everyone has their own way of mentally decompressing. Some people meditate, pray, go hiking, or even spend time in your driving or in the shower thinking about life. Find an activity that provides mental calmness to decompress with. Once your mind calms, it is then the best time to reflect on whatever current situation you might be in.
How we deal with stress affects our mental health. Many people are very keen on this. Methods range from breathing techniques to people having to pay a professional for therapeutic treatments. I de-stress by hiking in nature and sleeping regularly. I’ve found that these simple methods not only help with relieving stress but also help with increasing willpower and avoiding depression. Stress has also been shown to make people have hard times with attention spans.
