Publishing has changed. In the past to publish a story, or to get your opinion out, you had to hire someone or have some organic media assets. That why in the past only the rich and influential were able to share their views and ideas with the world. Now in the modern age, everything is very different. It takes all for some sort of idea to be viewed as popular by others on social media, and then for it to be shared around the web. This isn’t always done on purpose by the poster, by is also done by accident too, or the page promoting the content either secretly or by paid advertisements. How many embarrassing videos on social media, actually end up making people famous.
Even ideas that aren’t considered safe or conventional still find their way into fame online through the internet. This has led to social media sites and other online platforms taking it upon themselves to put safeties in place to “protect the communities,” yet all the companies really do is silencing people, who are viewed as an opposition. This leads to shadow bans as well as accounts being taken down.
The good news is that the people who want to share the truth have found safer ways to conduct communication through social media operations, and while exploring other platforms. Many people run accounts just for the sake of sharing ideas, pollical opinions, or just to teach people stuff they know, without sharing personal life details. These are considered project accounts, anonymous accounts, and alts.
In the past people used to be considered “anonymous” because they would run these faceless accounts, then were run using VPNs and other types of proxies. This was done back when the threat of doxing was much more relevant (mid 2010’s). As time went on, and more people started speaking the truth on social media, the impacts of doxing have become much less. Now, at this point no one really cares about what people post online. This means people now can be much more open when they post their own opinions and ideas online. It is true that you still need to be careful with your identity online, and on social media. But this doesn’t mean people aren’t trying to find other ways to share the truth.
