While this process might feel overwhelming at first, the truth is knowing the steps and getting organized ahead of time is very important.

Having an idea about what you want your social media project to be about is the first step. However, if it is rushed, and not thought out, your social media project can be doom right from the start. Make sure your goals are already set, so you can build your social media to help follow steps towards that goal. Like if your goal is to own a business, maybe you set up a page dedicated to information and memes about your industry and then use those accounts to advertise your business account. If you want to market yourself as a person whether it be showing off creative works or for political aspects, these factors should be used to help orient your page. Everyone is different and everyone has different goals, with different steps needed to fulfill those goals. The best thing to do is brainstorm many ideas and pick the best few out of that.

There is nothing saying that you can’t test out content online to see what works even if you create an account just to test content on, the once you know what type of content works the best, you can expand from there into something more successful or long term.

Once it is figured out what kind of project or content you want to host, get a dedicated email. Gmail is the best, but proton mail is good for people who need to make multiple accounts. Not only is this professional, but it also helps keep things organize, with all of the contacts going to one email, instead of getting it mixed in with emails from personal and other projects.

When knowing what kind of material works well, the next step is to start preparing content. Usually when a new account is opened up, it is blank, which requires a handful of posts to be posted up once the account goes live. It’s suggested that before a new account is made, that the first handful of post are made ahead of time, that way when the page goes lives there is content to post. People won’t follow an empty page, and usually new accounts are usually shown as suggestions to other people. This makes the very first few days of having an account more pivotal than most people realize.

If you plan on posting regularly, it’s good to have material prepared and planned ahead of time, in case you fall behind, this won’t affect the schedule.

Besides having initial content, if you want to use the internet to make money via subscriber, you need to produce two types of content, free and premium. If you only have premium content, you won’t be able to grow a crowd of followers. Usually, people post longer posts for subscribers and shorter posts for their free content. Plan to make two types of content to fulfill both needs if you have a hope in pursuing a subscription based social media project.

Once all this is prepared, it is time to start making sites and social media. When it comes to utilizing social media, different types of content work better on different platforms. Knowing what platforms work better for you and your desired goals is something to think about. Some platforms host pictures better, like Looky and Instagram. Some platforms are better for video like TikTok and YouTube. Some platforms are better for written works like Facebook and Twitter. Another thing to worry about is censorship, since different websites have different levels of censorship. This censorship could be in the form of content being straight up removed or being banned. However, the most common form of censorship is in the form of shadow bans, where a user is allowed to post what they want, yet their reach and account functions are limited, by algorithms.

Once you have content prepared and social media accounts made, it’s time to post the initial content. At the very beginning you will have no followers, but going around social media and interacting with other accounts will help you grow your account, but it is important to make sure that you have some content on your page, so people don’t see you as just an empty page.

After the account is set up, have time set aside to go through and interact with other accounts. This can be done by searching for key words related to your type of content, then liking or commenting on posts that are related to what you are doing. It’s good to filter your results by the latest posted, so you aren’t interacting with posts that are popular, and have many other interacting with them. This will lead to your interaction being buried. The best thing to do is interact with new posts, or posts that have very little interaction on them to begin with. This will lead to you interacting with real people, who might care for your work, rather than well-established pages that don’t.

Finding likeminded groups and pages to also share your content on as well can also help you grow your pages as well.

Make sure you keep posting interesting content, that is clean and helpful to people. Make sure to do this regularly. Be careful sharing opinions since this is usually seen as unpopular.
